Is it legal?
SmarterX is a legitimate product that gives you the choice of running your licensed program on more than one machine, either one machine at a time (non-concurrent) or several machines at the same time (concurrent).
SmarterX can be used legally and within the terms of your license agreement. If you have more than one dongle (multi-user license) concurrent sharing of anyone of your dongles using the device will be legal and with in the terms of your license agreement as long as the numbers of concurrent users do not exceed the number of dongles you have purchased. If you have a single dongle (single user license) you can still use the device legally providing you run your software on multiple computers non-concurrently and thus stay within the terms of your single user license agreement (non-concurrent means running your program on more than one machines one at a time).
SmarterX is not intended as a means to defeat the main purpose of software dongles, which is to provide protection against the menace of software piracy (illegal distribution and reproduction of software). The device is not a dongle emulator or a replacement for your dongle. It does not interfere with your software or your license file. It is only useful if it is used with your dongle and your legally purchased application software.
Stop moving your dongle around
Moving a dongle around between computers is kind of pain and requires lots of fumbling around under the desk. The dongle must be track down and disconnected from the parallel or USB port and it can be easily lost or stolen if it is constantly moved.
SmarterX offers you a neat solution to the above problems by providing a virtual permanent connection between the dongle and computers attached to the device. Since the dongle remains permanently attached to SmarterX the problems highlighted above are eliminated.

This device works with all makes of parallel port dongles. Your software dongle is automatically available to two users running the same application software at the same time*.
The device can be cascaded to share your dangle between 3 or 4 PC's. No switches to set, no software to install, just plug in your computers and your dongle and you're ready to go! It's that easy!
SmarterX-2 is transparent to other dongles. That means several dongles can be attached to the device and shared by two users.
The device can be operated at a distance of 30 meters (100 feet) from a remote computer. Standard DB25 data cables available in various lengths (3m, 5m, and 10m) can be used to connect the device to the computer. We can supply PPD extender kit that is used with CAT5 patch cables for distances beyond 10 meters.

Run your licensed software on two computers either one computer at a time or on both computers at the same time.
This device works with all makes of USB dongles. The device provides a virtual connection between the dongle and the two computers attached to it. The dongle appears to be plugged into the USB port of both computers. Because of this virtual connection you are able to run your licensed software on both computers concurrently using a single dongle.
The device is purely a hardware based solution and requires no driver or software installation.
When using standard USB A/B cables the distance between the device and the remote computers can not be longer that 5 meters. However, this distance can be increased to around 40 meters (120 feet) when using a low cost USB active extender. More expensive types of USB active extenders are capable of extending the distance to over 200 meters (600 feet). Wireless connection is also possible but currently the wireless USB extenders are rather expensive.
